To Serve As Jesus Did

All baptized and confirmed Christians receive a call as well as gifts from God enabling them to participate in ministry. In the Catholic Church, lay ministers have long been assisting in the celebration of the Liturgy. They have been servers and musicians and choir members for centuries. Since Vatican II, lay ministers have participated by reading the Scripture, reading the general petitions, and serving as extraordinary ministers of communion.

St. Matthias encourages all parishioners to pray about and discern which ministry is the one to which they are being called. Training is provided for all ministries within the Parish. In June 2015, under the guidance of the pastor, the parish staff, the pastoral and finance councils, the St. Matthias Pastoral Plan, Shaping the Future , was adopted. The ministries at St. Matthias are organized by the chapters contained within the Plan. As implementation continues, so too does our reexamination of ministries offered and prioritized.
