Prayer and Worship
While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God. Luke 24:51-53
Prayer & Worship Commission
Members of the Prayer and Worship Commission (formerly known as the Liturgy Committee) meet once per month to evaluate and plan parish liturgical celebrations. They seek to make all aspects of the community’s worship as meaningful as possible.
Please contact Deacon Rich if you are interested in joining the Prayer & Worship Commission or would like more information.
Liturgical Environment Committee -LEC (formerly known as the Altar Society)
These volunteers enhance and beautify our worship space. Teams of helpers share responsibility for decorating the Church to reflect the liturgical season, caring for altar linens and vestments, caring for plants in the Church and prayer garden, lightly cleaning and keeping our worship space organized, putting our weekly bulletins, replacing the Holy Water in the fonts, and ensuring that the sanctuary candle and other candles are in supply and burning.
Please contact Sabrina Harper if you are interested in joining the Liturgical Environment Committee.
Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at all of the Masses. The Eucharistic Ministers for the Sick and the Homebound take communion to those in Sequoia or Kaiser Hospitals, care facilities, such as Devonshire Oaks and Lakeview Lodge, and special facilities such as Cordilleras Mental Health Center. They also visit parishioners who are homebound, in rehabilitation facilities, or in care facilities in and around Redwood City. Training is provided for both ministries.
A Catholic lay person who has received the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist is eligible to be an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He or she is a person who is willing to make a commitment to serve in one of the most important offices in the Church. By prayerfully responding to God’s love and call, Eucharistic Ministers are to be visible signs of faith, hope and love to all parishioners.
Contact Sabrina Harper for more information about how to become a Eucharistic Minister.
Altar Servers
Those who have received their First Communion are encouraged to deepen their participation in the liturgy by serving with the priest and deacon at Mass. This is an important ministry for our younger members of the parish. Training is provided.
Contact Deacon Rich Foley to find out more about how to become an Altar Server.
Music Ministry
Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe and all kinds of music, all the peoples, nations and men of every language fell down and worshiped…Daniel 3:7
Parishioners are invited to join music ministry by serving as an instrumentalist at liturgies, serving as cantor at the Saturday evening 5:00 pm or 8:00 am Sunday liturgies, or by singing in the 10:30 am family choir. Rehearsals are held 1/2 hour prior to each Mass.
If you are interested in volunteering your vocal or instrumental talents, please contact Melanie Dresbach, our Music Director.
Prayer Tree Network
Anyone may request prayer for a special need or intention (healing, grieving, loss, discernment, strength, comfort, support) by contacting our Prayer Tree Network. Each person in the network spends time in prayer for these intentions. The Prayer Tree is open to all. All prayer requests and contact information are strictly confidential.
Readers
Readers proclaim the Word of God in the readings at Mass and other liturgies. They also present the prayers of the faithful and parish announcements. Adults and youth who have been confirmed are invited to join this ministry. Readers are scheduled on a rotating basis depending on the Mass they normally attend. Training is provided by Deacon David Rolandelli.
To find out more about how to become a Reader, contact Deacon David.
Rosary for Peace Group
This group gathers each Thursday morning at 10:00 am in the Church to say the Rosary with the intention of promoting peace in our world. All are welcome.
Taize Prayer
All are invited to join us for Morning Prayer in the style of Taize the third Tuesday of each month, at 10:00 am in the Church. Much of this contemplative service will be in song as we join our voices in worship, praise, and in prayer. We will give thanks for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and we will pray together for healing. Join us for silent reflection during the service and for communal prayer as we focus on the needs of those gathered. All are welcome. For more information, contact Melanie.
Ushers
Our ushers direct people to their pews, organize the collection and offertory during Masses, and are available if any emergencies arise.
To learn more about becoming an usher, contact parishioner, Joe Yanacek.
